On March 17–18, 2025, a CIIMAR team—Hugo Santos, Marina Machado, and Sergio Fernández-Boo—visited Spain’s National Institute for Agriculture and Food Research (INIA) and the Animal Health Research Center (CISA), both in Madrid. The visit aimed to strengthen ties and exchange knowledge in fish immunology, pathology, and biosecurity practices.

At INIA, the team met with the Fish Immunology and Pathology group, toured experimental and cytometry facilities, and discussed project progress and upcoming activities. At CISA, the group explored high-level biosecurity facilities and learned about advanced waste and air treatment processes in their level 3 and 4 labs.

This visit provided valuable insights to improve CIIMAR’s bioterium security measures, supporting the GRINNAQUA project’s goals of enhancing aquaculture research infrastructure and safety.
